Looking for a T Republican

I’m looking for someone who can write an articulate piece about being trans and Republican. I really don’t understand it myself, so I’d like someone who would be willing to address themselves to left-leaning Democrats.

I am a pre-op transsexual woman, a Christian and a Republican. Growing up my family were all Democrats and I considered myself a Democrat until the 1980's. I was in the military under the Carter administration. I switched to Republican under Reagan. Since neither party is actually going to help us directly I have to go on my core beliefs. Many of the ideas of the Democrats are way too socialist for me. I spent 11 years of my life on a FBM submarine protecting us from the socialist to let socialist policies be implemented. I believe in a strong military. I don't like war any more than anyone else. I have a son going to Iraq. It doesn't matter now why we got into Iraq but it matters now HOW we get out. The Democrats have made a lot of promises. All the promises will increase the government and the tax burden. We all need real reform in Washington. We as American have come to expect the government to take care of us. What happened to the spirit of a very famous Democrat. "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." That is the American spirit. People need to be responsible for their own lives. They need to be responsible for their own actions. I believe in a social safety need to help those that due to circumstances need a boost. In this country the safety net has become a hammock.

I was in the sub base military under the Carter (Carter actually visited our sub) administration. I switched to Republican under Reagan. I also got out of the Navy because during the Reagan years it was decided that instead of teaching the required skills needed in the Sub Force we had to teach and practice marching at least two days a week, instead of the classes that would keep you living if something happened on the Sub! The school time was also shortened by two weeks in addition. The overall time shrunk to less than 2 weeks of training vs 5 weeks (A lot of Sub Sailors lost their lives because of that) I got out of the Navy instead of going back to sea and the risk of working with Untrained dangerous Sailors.

I trained some of those sub sailors personally. My shore duty was at Damn Neck, Virginia where I taught Fire Control Technicians to operate the fire control system to launch nuclear weapons. I was a medical retiree in 1986 and never heard of any sub sailors getting killed. I do know that the Navy changed after I joined. I had more training on my last 3 boats after shore duty than I did on the boat before shore duty. Of course everyone has different perspectives otherwise there wouldn't be different political parties. I was just trying to answer the question about why I am a transsexual and a Republican. The "Your actually mileage may be different" type thing. BTW, were you on fast attacks?
